In the metaphor and metonymy storyboard, the participants referred to new media as the bridge that connected Greece and Australia – our past (there) and our present (here). Alexandros’s tennis hobby from his youth in Kavala, and the sentiment behind Costas’s competitiveness in swimming, are integrated in the storyboard, giving life to the tension of Greece versus Australia: a game of tennis will determine which country or identity wins the loyalty of the players. This storyboard allows reflections of the past, the present and an emerging future – a journaling of becoming and a horizon line of new opportunities that may arise because of migrating to Australia, both for the individual and for others in their online community. The storyboard can thus be valuable as an educational tool. It presents movement in terms of time travel (represented by the DeLorean car from Back to the Future) and of crossing the bridge virtually, across time zones. Likening new media to time travel reveals my desire for connection in the physical world.
