John Andrews: Architect of Uncommon Sense was an exhibition curated by Paul Walker and Kevin Liu staged at the Graduate School of Design, Harvard University, 28 October-22 December 2022. The exhibition included reproductions of drawings, period photographs, contemporary photographs of remaining Andrews buildings by artist Noritaka Minami, period publications about the architect and other documents generated by his offices.
The exhibition documented research by the curators into the work conducted by the Andrews offices in Toronto and Sydney across multiple locations in Canada, the United States and Australia. It organised the drawings and photographs of the offices' work to investigate six themes that drove the work: geography; the 'third generation' of modern architects; urbanism; building; environment and sustainability; and teamwork. While demonstrating the unique achievement of a previously under-recognised architect, through these themes the exhibition also reflected on the broader, international architecture culture during the period of Andrews's active career from the 1960s to the 1990s.
