The Reflective Learning Spiral is a dynamic model that guides learners through an iterative process of reflection, meaning-making, and action. It integrates three learning domains:

  • the Affective (feelings and values),
  • the Cognitive (understanding), and
  • the Conative (intentional action).

Starting from a learning moment, the spiral encourages learners to attend to their feelings and values (meaning-making), deepen understanding through reflection (sense-making), and develop lessons learned that inform future intentional action. At the heart of the model is the question:

“What is your intention, and where will you give your attention?”

This spiral enables deeper, transformative learning by linking subjective experience with objective analysis, fostering reflective practice in STEM and beyond.
