Sleep, Perchance to Dream was a feminist response to the character of Ophelia, developed by clown/actor Alex Travers as part of the 2017 Trajectory Residency Program at Tantrum Youth Arts. Alex then received Trajectory Co-Production funding to further develop and realise her work and I was brought on as a professional industry mentor to support Alex, as an emerging artist, to navigate the process. I worked in various capacities in support of Alex throughout the process in support of her needs and questions during the creative process – I led Lecoq based workshops in the clown and physical performance, provided dramaturgical advice about adapting Shakespeare’s text and provided mentorship in collaborative models. The work premiered at the Playhouse, Civic Theatre in Newcastle and later was presented in excerpt at PACT in Sydney, which led to a season at the Old 505.
