Research Statement
The field of research is Music Performance. The performance was the Melbourne premiere of a new concerto for horn and wind symphony by Cathy Likhuta, a well-known composer for the french horn. Melbourne Conservatorium were part of the commissioning consortium for the concerto. The work was inspired by the devastating Australian bushfires of 2019-2020 and sought to explore how a group of students with a staff soloist could channel their collective and personal grief from this devastating time into their musical expression to give a performance more poignancy and meaning.
The performance was the Melbourne premiere of a new work for horn and wind symphony by Australian-Ukranian composer Cathy Likhuta. This performance was particularly significant as both I as soloist, and many of the students, were personally impacted by the bushfires which inspired the work, and it represented an opportunity for us to work together to manifest our collective and personal grief into the performance.
The performance of a solo concerto in a significant venue such as the Melbourne Recital Centre and on a Melbourne-wide wind band day is an expression of my standing as a soloist.
