Research Statement

Tu(r)ning Air is an interactive performance inviting the audience to experience the extended touch of techno-embodiment through a choreosonic score. It builds on the three collaborators prior experience creating the improvised performance, 'Breath Trio' as part of the Bronwyn Kidd's exhibition, ' Through Her Breaths' for the Montsalvat Art Gallery, Melbourne (March 2024). Invited to perform as part of ArtJog Performa, the artists develop a sustained attunement in relation to each other in the context of an installation by Agus Suwage and Titarubi. The corridors of the purpose built gallery are filled with sound and images of seeds, plants, rice grains and ears. the artists energetically reconfigure these spaces in relation to each other and a responsive and sensor based sound design by Monica Lim. The enclosed space for the performance as a series of tunnels, operating in dialogue with the installation by Suwage and Titarubi, created an intensity of sensory information (kinesthetic, acoustic and haptic). Audience were up close to the performers, affording them a unique experience of embodied listening. This aligned with the intention of the visual artists, to draw attention to a loss of silence in contemporary life.
