I presented the set design for The Jungle and the Sea the day the world shut down for Covid19 in March 2020 and nearly two years later opened the play. The same writer S. Shakthidharan and director Eamon Flack who created the worldwide success, Counting and Cracking, shaped this more brutal story of the civil war in Sri Lanka around the storyline of Antigone, Sophocles classical tragedy. I was also the costume designer for this production. Embedded into the writing and conception of the play was a revolving stage which moved continuously throughout the three-and-a-half-hour duration.

This play was a great follow up to Counting and Cracking as it did not try to mimic it in style or tone but if the first play presented how the situation of the divided country occurred then the Jungle and the Sea tabled how it played out. The critics were universal in there praise and
it received the Sydney Theatre Awards for Best Production and Best Ensemble for 2022.
‘Set design by Dale Feguson conflates the brutality of war with the tenderness of nature, for a performance space that is unobtrusive, yet intensely evocative. Ferguson’s costumes instil dignity for the shows characters, who suffer the ravages of war but are nonetheless indomitable.”’
