Research Statement

Research in the field of painting to specifically establish a contemporary lineage with the works of Georgio De Chirico ( Italy, 1888- 1978) and to link language through sound work to a 3 tiered cultural negotiation between the Arabic, Italian and English. The research considers the reversals of early 20th century paintings to convey covert knowledge. What was revealed are several incursions in the field of representation that occurred at a specific period of collective doubt and anxiety. The exhibition was at Connors Connors which is an artist run and funded gallery. The gallery always stages 2 concurrent exhibitions by a mid career artist alongside an emerging artist. In this instance, I exhibited alongside Francis Carmody, a recent VCA graduate who I taught in undergraduate.
