Self-portrait of an artist, teacher and researcher (5x collages each measuring 350mm x 180mm wide). The following artist statement was both wall label and published in the catalogue accompanying the exhibition:

"My artworks are a series of life drawing collages. I have cut and reassembled strips of discarded student paintings to create a series of Matisse inspired figures. The repurposing of unwanted student paintings creates a dialogue between the child-artist and teacher-artist, becoming a metaphor for the relational process of giving and receiving that is inherent in student-teacher relationships.

Engaging in the creative process allows me to experience the intrinsic benefits of making art while developing my ability to adopt new perspectives, communicate visually and think more flexibly. This helps me on a personal and professional level while informing my belief that arts education should occupy a central role in the school curriculum.

Exhibiting motivates me to prioritise art-making in my busy schedule. It reminds me of the value of maintaining an artistic practice and connecting with an artist community."
