Yan Yean Road (Stage 2) Presentation - Film sequence
This short film sequence was based on a presentation made by the author to the Yan Yean Road (Stage 2) Upgrade Project Inquiry and Advisory Committee in December 2020. It was shown as part of an exhibit entitled 'Encounters with the Real World: Media to Change Hearts and Minds' as part of the MSDx exhibition at the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne in November 2024.
The original presentation dates from 2020. An embedded video by the World Meteorological Organization provides a snapshot (video within the presentation) of climate change observations and forecasts at that time which are now historic. Climate change related to the presentation in terms of the physical design of the project (including hard surfaces and plant loss/replacement), and the design and integration of active and public transport options.
A short section of the film ("4b") has been visually obscured for ethical (privacy) reasons.
The project construction has been announced and appears imminent, however as at publication on Figshare [24/1/2025] the detailed design including acceptance (or not) of any components of this submission, or others, have not been made public. A community campaign in Nillumbik has expressed concern about the impacts of the 'optioned' intersection design on the green wedge, road safety and on wildlife.
