Strange Attractors is a collaboration between guitarist Jess Green and drummer Dylan van der Schyff. They use perspectives associated with embodied cognitive science and dynamical systems theory to frame their work in terms of an explorative, adaptive process whereby established patterns of action and perception are challenged and juxtaposed; and where new possibilities for musical communication emerge and develop. Through a series of live improvisations recorded in different contexts over an extended period, the duo map and document the progression of their music. The resulting recordings are to be compiled into a portfolio that demonstrates the emergence and evolution of a collaborative aesthetic vision in improvised music. This performance/presentation took place at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music as part of the Artistic Research Summit 2025.
