Public Places: Jayson Cooper (solo piano)
Music performed with public places and recorded on a phone. Music is everywhere and everything; places and environments then become unique holders of their own songs that are always evolving within the specific acoustics of those places. And when instruments are left or brought into these places they invite improvisation-with. These recordings are moments in time where the music being performed is only one part of the environment at that time.

Student Village Melbourne Laundry is the name of the location on the audio recording of this piano improvisation in tune with the public place and is on the campus of the University of Melbourne Law Building, performed by Jayson Cooper

Video made while listening to the recording on the bus ride home doing a deep mapping and listening of this place and time.

Deep mapping is an interdisciplinary and creative method for exploring place in rich, layered ways. It attends closely to the echoes and textures of a site—its histories, stories, and sensory details—revealing the palimpsest of relations that shape our being with place. Drawing on multiple disciplinary perspectives, deep mapping moves beyond surface representations to engage with the entanglements of self, environment, and time. This process often incorporates visual, sonic, and narrative forms, allowing for an imaginative engagement with both physical landscapes and the in-between spaces where meaning is co-created.
