This poster sets out the potential benefits and uses of trees in free range settings for poultry.

The poster looks at:

  • The architectural elements of trees that can be used to provide benefits to free range poultry (ie spatial structure, vertical barriers, overhead cover)
  • On site practices using trees in the authors own free range poultry space to increase - biomass, soil health, and microfauna biodiversity for increased poultry welfare.
  • Mutuality where poultry care (watering etc) and sustainable manure/litter management benefit tree health.
  • A number of studies into the benefits of the services provided by trees such as structure shade and forage
  • A number of studies that demonstrate increased use of the range by poultry where tree and shrub cover is available
