<p dir="ltr">This presentation is an overview of my research on sound change in Singapore English and its connection to language identity, which I have created as part of the 2025 Visualise Your Thesis competition.</p><p><br></p><p dir="ltr"><b>Transcript</b></p><p dir="ltr">Do you know your voices are your social DNA? The minute you speak, I know who you are, where you are from, and how you might be perceived.</p><p dir="ltr">In Singapore, English tells stories of its colonial battles, and also its multilinguistic struggles.</p><p dir="ltr">But few care enough to listen.</p><p dir="ltr">So my research celebrates Singapore English in its own right,</p><p dir="ltr">I aim to understand what it is, how its speakers change the way they speak to tell a story of who they are and what they want to be. It matters not only as it values diversity, but also because it cares about people who speak less recognised Englishes.</p><p dir="ltr">Change doesn't just live in our body; it tells stories.</p>
