It provides an overview of my PhD research which aims to enhance well-being outcomes for music listeners by improving recommendation algorithms used by music streaming services to recommend music that helps users regulate their emotions.

Transcript:
"Emotional distress is rising globally, but how can we help millions of people?

Well, over 700 million people already use music streaming apps and many of us use music apps to influence how we feel. But we're left to guess which songs might best help us achieve our emotional goals.

In my PhD, I found that people benefit from getting help to build their emotion playlists and to do this, most people would be willing to tell their music app how they feel.

I created an app called MoodDJ. You tell the app: how you feel now & how you want to feel and it takes you on an emotion journey, transitioning you between moods using music you want to hear.

Imagine half a billion people having the power to turn their day around, just by pressing play. That is the future, helping millions manage their emotions, one playlist at a time."

References:
Daly, M., & Macchia, L. (2023).
