This poster explores on farm techniques to address tunnel and gully erosion on an unnamed gully, tributary of the Stewart Ponds Creek, Arthurs creek, and Yarra river system.

Unaddressed, the erosion leads to a growing topsoil and land loss problem spreading upslope like a land cancer, and downstream water contamination with fine, high sodium, silt particles.

I chose indigenous trees, shrubs and sedges which could survive and achieve planned outcomes in the denuded gully landscape. The chosen plants shade and shelter eroded ground, slow water falling or flowing, begin to build topsoil and regenerate soil life. As it grows this area will provide increasing habitat and connectivity.

Complementary tactics to reverse erosive processes include the introduction of physical ground barriers like logs; the digging of micro earthworks to capture rain water and organic matter for plants, and the construction of new fencing to separate the waterway from farm animals and vehicles.
