Can listening to a podcast reduce mental health stigma?
Podcasts are increasing in popularity and offer a novel medium for sharing messaging around mental health. This project involves the development and implementation of a podcast that aims to reduce stigmatising attitudes towards people affected by complex mental health issues such as schizophrenia, personality disorders and bipolar disorder.
This project involves iterative stages: a literature review exploring stigma reduction interventions; a cross-sectional survey exploring podcast attitudes and preferences; co-design work to inform the scope of the podcast; recording of the podcast featuring narratives from people with lived experience of complex mental health issues; and a randomised control trial exploring the impact of listening to the podcast on stigmatising attitudes.
