Children in hospital experience pain daily. Undertreated pain is linked to many immediate and long-term negative consequences. Over the last five years Australian children’s hospitals began using electronic systems, known as Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), in place of paper-based systems to record medical information. This study will examine how EMRs are designed and used to provide best pain care for hospitalised children. Children and parents will also be asked about their potential to report their child's pain and pain needs directly into EMRs.
