Half of the solar energy falls in UV- visible range and the other half in near-infrared (NIR). We show that to warm up jewel beetles, the absorption in NIR has a more significant effect on body temperature of the beetles than the absorption in uV-visible range. We highlight the importance of NIR in insect thermoregulation.
