Child + Adult Artist Response Project (C+AARP) INSIDE|OUTSIDE 2020

The ‘Child+Adult Art Response Project' (C+AARP) involves child artists in a small number of primary schools in metropolitan and regional Victoria, Australia practicing with adult artists in the Master of Teaching (Visual Arts and Design) at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE). They visually and textually respond to INSIDE|OUTSIDE as a conceptual, pedagogical and material provocation with each artwork shared as an art encounter. Within C+AARP, practice can be defined as a recurring, situated action informed by shared meanings (Schatzki, Knorr-Cetina & Savigny, 2001) and adheres to the premise that practice is critical because practitioners develop knowing through doing. Practice is the common thread that holds the multiple dimensions of this community together. Knowing within this speculative a/r/tography (Coleman & MacDonald, 2020) is understood as “an ongoing social accomplishment, constituted and reconstituted in everyday practice” (Orlikowski, 2002, p. 252). As a collaborative art project, this shifted slightly as prompt INSIDE|OUTSIDE had new meaning during the COVID-19 pandemic. INSIDE|OUTSIDE When you think about INSIDE|OUTSIDE what comes to mind? What do these words mean when side-by-side? How does this make you feel? What does it make you wonder about? What are curious about when you think about INSIDE|OUTSIDE? You are invited to make an artwork, create a video, do a drawing in the dirt, paint a painting on a canvas, print images using paint and objects you find in your house, take a series of photographs on an iPad or with a digital camera or build a cardboard sculpture that responds to what INSIDE|OUTSIDE provokes in you. INSIDE|OUTSIDE is an interesting thing to be considering at the moment as schools and universities are closed and we are asked to distance ourselves and stay at home.
